Dulose Lactulose Oral Liquid is an osmotic laxative used for the management of constipation and to assist in maintaining regular bowel function. Each 15 mL dose contains 10 g of lactulose, a synthetic sugar that increases water content in the bowel, helping to soften stools and promote bowel movement.

Lactulose acts differently from stimulant laxatives and produces a gradual effect. Under medical supervision, it may be used over extended periods. It is also commonly used in the management of hepatic encephalopathy associated with liver disease, where it helps reduce the absorption of ammonia and other toxins.

The 500 mL bottle is intended for individuals who require ongoing treatment.

Product Details

This product is indicated for the treatment of constipation. Each 5 mL contains 3.3 g of lactulose.

Warnings

Use in children should occur under medical supervision. Prolonged use of laxatives is generally not recommended. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice. Patients are encouraged to maintain adequate fluid intake and dietary fibre. This product may contain other sugars, including lactose, epilactose, galactose, tagatose and fructose.

Directions for Use

Adults
Initial dose: 15–45 mL daily
After three days, reduce to a maintenance dose of 15–30 mL daily

Children (under medical supervision)
Ages 7–14 years:
Initial (first 3 days): 15 mL
Maintenance: 10–15 mL

Ages 1–6 years:
Initial (first 3 days): 5–10 mL
Maintenance: 5–10 mL

Infants under 1 year:
Initial (first 3 days): 5 mL
Maintenance: 5 mL

May be taken mixed with fruit juice, water or milk.
