Follicle-stimulating hormone, or FSH, rises as the ovaries wind down, which is why it is used as a marker for perimenopause and menopause. This TouchBio midstream test is a one-step lateral flow immunoassay that picks up FSH in urine at 25 mIU/mL and above, with a result in 3 minutes. The absorbent tip can be held directly in the urine stream or dipped in a collection cup, whichever is easier.

When to Use It
It is worth testing if you are having perimenopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, irregular cycles or mood changes, if you have had no period for 12 months and want to check your menopause status, or if you are tracking hormonal changes over time. FSH fluctuates, so running two tests one week apart gives a clearer picture than a single result.

Directions for Use
Take the test out of the foil pouch just before use and remove the cap. Hold the absorbent tip in your urine stream for the time stated in the leaflet, pointing it downwards, or dip the tip into a clean cup of urine to the marked level. Replace the cap, lay the device flat with the result window facing up, and read at 3 minutes.

Reading Your Result
• Two lines, at T and C, with the test line as dark as or darker than the control: FSH is at or above 25 mIU/mL, which can suggest perimenopause or menopause.
• Control line only, or a test line lighter than the control: FSH is below the threshold.
• No control line: the test is invalid and should be repeated with a new device.

Warnings
• For in vitro diagnostic self-testing. This test does not diagnose menopause on its own and it is not a contraceptive test.
• Do not rely on this test to judge whether you can become pregnant. Pregnancy is still possible during perimenopause.
• Hormonal contraceptives, hormone therapy and some fertility medicines can affect FSH levels and the result.
• Discuss any result with your doctor before making decisions about treatment.
• Single use only. Store as directed on the pack, do not use past the expiry date and keep out of reach of children.
